Ready or not GHSA schools can formally start high school football practice on Wednesday.
Under the new GHSA heat rules, all schools must have five practices in helmets and shorts before the full pads can go on August 1st
The new heat policy was one of many issues discussed at the annual preview meeting held by In the Game Magazine and South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta Saturday.
Ten high school coaches from the Winnersville area were also discussing their team in a season that now has six classifications.
The panel included two first year head coaches.
David Ward is now the head coach at Lanier County and former Valdosta High assistant Ashley Henderson is now head coach at Valwood.
Ashley Henderson said."It is here. I am really looking forward to. We have got a good bunch of kids. They are fun to work with and a strong assistant coaching staff. We are really looking forward to it.
Valdosta High head coach Rance Gillespie "there are things they allow us to do over the course of the summer where we can kind of speculate and look at some things. You really don't know what kind of football team you are going to have until you put on the pad.
Cook High head coach Ken Cofer said. "July 25th yea it is kind of hard to believe. It is fun. We get to get started earlier with regular plays instead of August 1st. It is chance to start early and we can't wait for it."
Some teams will open their season on August 24th but everyone will have their season started by August 31st.
