Dougherty County Emergency Management officials say if a mass casualty attack happened here, they'd be ready.

EMA Director Jim Vaught says all public safety departments train throughout the year to handle disasters, whether they're natural or manmade.

They even train on dealing with shooters in crowds.

Vaught tell us they go beyond what is required.

"We as a community exercise beyond the requirements that are asked of us by GEMA and FEMA. We do a number of exercises every year to prepare our people in public safety," said Dougherty County EMA Director Jim Vaught.

Vaught says all public safety departments including SWAT, police and even fire are trained to handle open shooter and terrorist situations.
