DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

The Colorado movie massacre is not stopping movie goers in Douglas from getting their fill of Batman.

The Rockin' Eight Cinemas will continue to show "The Dark Knight Returns" at all of the scheduled times. But, Douglas police will be keeping a closer eye on the theater.

Douglas police will have a few extra eyes on the Rockin' 8 Cinemas over the weekend. They already beef up patrols on weekends, but they will add even more after the Colorado shootings.

"On weekends, we have extra duty officers who work that movie theater," said Douglas Police Deputy Chief Brannen Pruette. "Since this incident did occur, I've already put out to my field commander to extra patrol this weekend. If we need to do it another weekend or during the week, we'll do that also."

He says the Colorado incident is isolated and that people should feel comfortable going to the movies.

"For the most part, I think most cities are safe," said Pruette. "They can send their loved ones and their kids to the movie theater. How many cities are in the United States and how many movie theaters exist, and this has happened at one place."

Still, he says you need to pay attention to your surroundings and stay prepared.

"The best thing to do when you're leaving a building, or you get out of your vehicle and you're approaching a building, keep your car keys," said Pruette. "Most car keys now, they have an alarm system. If somebody is approaching you, just hit the alarm. Most people who plan on doing something harmful to you, they don't want to be observed or noticed."

He encourages families to enjoy their time at the movies, knowing that police are watching closely.

Douglas police say they always patrol the theater a little more on weekends. They don't expect any issues this weekend.
