THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Some south Georgia movie fans tell us they're a little nervous about heading to the theater tonight, but others say the Colorado massacre won't keep them from enjoying a night out.
Thomasville Movie Goer William Konrath says he and his wife were not sure whether they wanted to go to movies, or if it the theater would even be open. "That's why I checked by here. I figured still, but I wanted to be just courteous because I did check on it and I feel very sorry for the people that had the problem."
Just like many folks were afraid to fly after the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, after last nights shooting in Colorado, some people are choosing to stay home tonight.
Lt. Hampton with the Thomasville Police Department says added security from off-duty police officers is always available, but the movie theater has to ask for it. "However we do at all times beef up patrols during movie nights here at our cinemas at the Gateway Shopping Center."
Hampton says it's up to the community to report any suspicious activity. "Well anytime that someone sees anything that is out of the ordinary, somebody dressed in something that doesn't seem right, things such as bulletproof vests or masks, we encourage people to notify the police department and let us check them out."
Thomasville's Gateway Cinemas is operating today like any other day, but Konrath says it's still a good idea to check.
"You don't know which one is going to be shut down and neither do I, so that's why the people that come to the movies they should just check on it. If they can call it'd be fine, but that's what I feel they should do."
General Manager of the Gateway 7, Winston Willis says on top of the police department's weekend patrols, they also have a security guard on duty every Friday and Saturday night.
