The stolen wheelchair of an Albany man with Cerebral Palsy has been replaced. The local chapter of the Hasan Shriners gave 19-year-old Baze Mitchell a new wheel chair.
He did not want hand outs but rather to be an inspiration. A wrong was made right with two arm rest, two footplates and two sets of wheels.
"I thought it was nice to have it, there just in case I needed it," said 19-year-old Baze Mitchell.
His old chair was missing for weeks when WALB did the first story. After it aired several viewers wanted to help. "I was kind of overwhelmed by everybody's else's reaction," said Mitchell.
Randy Lee tried to surprise him with a check, Baze refused and donated the money. A short time later, the Albany Chapter of the Hasan Shriners gave him a new one. "If you want a happy ending, it depends on where you stop the story," said Mitchell.
His uplifting story continues with a few pull ups, a 60 pound bench press and a 50 pound bent over row. "He doesn't let his handicap get in the way," said Trainer Steven Nieesielowski.
"I try to work out my chest, biceps and triceps," said Mitchell.
It's clear he won't let Cerebral Palsy weigh him down. Baze says his strength comes from God. "He told me how he would pray that God would heal him. Then he stopped and asked God to make him a better man," said Nieesielowski.
"Once I realized that God could fix that if I allowed him, I started praying to be a better man. I hoped that he did have a plan for what was going on in my life," said Mitchell.
He goes on to say if you're inspired by his story join him at the Albany YMCA. Mitchell plans to volunteers Kids Triathlon tomorrow at 8am.
