CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Cordele and Crisp County officials say if voters pass the regional transportation sales tax, it will pay for vital projects in their area.

The revenue will go to replace the bridge that connects Crisp and Sumter counties over Lake Blackshear. Highway 280 from the bridge to Cordele will also be 4-laned.

Cordele officials say the widened highway will ease traffic as the job creating intermodal center gets underway.

"We're going to have a big distribution influx at that time once those trains start unloading containers here, they'll be putting those on trucks and then they'll be moving in all directions. Having that 4-lane will certainly be a great assistance in getting us westbound, out of the city and heading that way with freight containers and what not," said Cordele Assistant City Manager Edward Beach.

The regional T-SPLOST referendum is on the July 31st ballot.
