Suspended DCSS board member to stand trial

Posted: Updated:

Suspended Dougherty County School Board member Velvet Riggins will stand trial in September on charges she lied to get free school lunches for her children.

Riggins is charged with theft by taking, providing false information and public record fraud.

Last week, the governor removed her from her school board seat until the outcome of her trial.

Riggins and Morningside Elementary School Principal Gloria Baker and her husband, John were all indicted in a school lunch investigation.

Riggins will be tried September 17th. The Bakers don't yet have a trial date.
