Albany is losing one of its biggest money-making events after 25 years. The United Kennel Club is moving its Winter Classic Coon Hunt.
The UKC posted on its web site that next year's hunt will be held in Batesville, Mississippi.
The 3-day event drew people from all over the country to Albany and pumped about $2 million into the local economy each year.
The UKC announcement said they are "indebted with gratitude to the people and community of Albany, Georgia and the surrounding clubs for their help and support in building this outstanding event. However, in looking ahead to the next 25 years, we feel we can take this event to a new and unprecedented level by making this move."
In response to complaints on a UKC forum, a club official posted that they believe Batesville can put on "a nicer event for our customers" and that they wanted to move last year but allowed Albany to host the 25th anniversary event.
