LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

A new senior living complex in Lee County held its grand opening Wednesday.  Officials and residents gathered for an official celebration for Forrester Senior Village.

"It's a growth corridor coming from Albany, especially here on 19 with the new Publix and CVS just right down the road from us," said Josh Thomason, an owner with Peachtree Housing.

The complex off Forester Parkway has 50 units for folks 55 and older.

Construction wrapped up in May, but the project has been in the works since 2009.

"We went through a long rezoning process. But after working with the county, we were able to work all that out and win their support over and now luckily we have a beautiful product today," explained Thomason.

Forrester Senior Village is 50% occupied and the owners expect it to fill up in the next few months.

They say it provides affordable housing specifically for seniors that wasn't available in Lee County.
