The 2012 Olympics are just a week and a half away. As the world's best athletes train to hit their peak at just the right time, some children with Olympic dreams prepare for their own competition at Albany's YMCA. They're practicing their swimming, biking, and running skills for a triathlon.
12-year-old Dorian Usry dreams of becoming an Olympic athlete.
"I hope I can go to the Olympics one day for swimming," said Dorian.
And Albany's YMCA triathlon camp is helping her and other children reach their goals. The camp is preparing these children to compete in a triathlon Saturday. Trained triathlete Deanna Julian says the camp has brought out some great athletes.
"I've got some really talented runners, and swimmers, and some that like to bike," said Julian.
The kids jump out of the pool, get on their bike, put their helmet on, and head down the field for the biking and running portion.
Ages 4 to 17 can compete on Saturday and the best three boys and three girls in each age group will receive a prize.
"I've never done a triathlon before and I think I'm doing pretty good,"said Dorian.
Landon Ott says the camp is helping him to train to become a better athlete.
"It's making me stronger and it makes me have more agility," said Landon.
Dorian says she'll be tuning into the Olympics to watch her favorite swimmer, Ryan Lochte compete, and hoping one day she can win Olympic medals like him.
The registration fee for Saturday's competition will be $25 the day of.
