Albany Panther fans rejoice, its official, you will have your two time champion head coach back for another season. The Panthers held a press conference Wednesday and has announced that head coach Lucious Davis has signed a new one year deal to return to the Panthers.
Davis had previously went back and forth about returning saying he needed to spend more time with his family back in Houston. The major deciding factor for his return is the fact that his new contract allows him to be in Houston more both in the off season and during the season.
Panthers' general manager Will Carter expressed his eagerness to retain Davis in order to entice the other veterans to come back as well. Davis has been with Panthers for the last three seasons and has won back to back league championships with the Albany based team. Carter also explained the want by most of the team to win a third straight championship next season.
Davis said he spoke with his family for two hours on the phone before getting the thumbs up from those he loves and loves him in return.
He said "we talked, discussed the contract, the opportunities I had to come home and they all were very supportive."
Carter said "We were able to come to an agreement where coach will be able to go home in the off season and also some time during the season which is something that he wanted and his family definitely wanted as well so we're definitely pleased to have him back."
Davis also went on to say that some of the core guys said they'd back if he came back.
