Thomasville Police say the man who was found dead Tuesday has been identified as 21-year-old Hassan Hana Williams.
Williams was found around 9:45 am at 402 Metcalf Ave. Police say he was shot twice, but have not released where on his body he was shot.
Williams lived with his parents at 610 Wessinger Street in West Columbia, South Carolina.
Investigators still do not know why Williams was in Thomasville, but say he was just honorably discharged from the Army on July 9th.
Police say there was an anonymous tip called in about a body behind a house.
"Upon arrival, officers detected a gentleman laying in the backyard of 402 Metcalf Avenue. It was later determined that this gentleman was deceased. It's been since determined that it is a homicide," said Thomasville Police Lt. Eric Hampton.
Police still do not know the identity of the victim, the cause of death, or who may have killed him.
"The body of the gentleman has not been identified at this time. So, there's an ongoing investigation. We're just asking anyone who has information about this crime to please notify Crime Stoppers," said Hampton.
The GBI, Thomas County Sheriff's Office, and Thomasville Narcotics Division were also on the scene.
"The drug squad is here, assisting us as well. It's just a collaborative effort. All the investigators are here. Nothing to say that drugs are involved at all, but they're just here assisting us in the case," said Hampton.
Police say they hope a new method of reporting tips can help them solve this case.
"We have a new method of reporting crime. It's called "text a tip." Basically, all you do is text a number in, put a number in from the text, and leave the number they want and information the want to release to us as far as the crime's concerned," said Hampton.
Police say once the victim is identified, they will notify his next of kin, then him name can be released.
