LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

We now know their teenaged son found Hemang and Alpa Patel dying from gunshot wounds in their North Carolina home, and police reports say the gun was near Hemang Patel's hand.

The Patels, who owned the A&J Food Mart on U.S. 19 in Lee County, died last Monday in an apparent murder/suicide.

The Winston Salem Journal newspaper reports the Patels both had gunshot wounds to the head and face.

The Patels weren't dead when their son found them, so he called 911 and they were rushed to a hospital where they died.

He told deputies he removed a gun near his father's hand because he was still moving.

The family moved to Clemmons, North Carolina in 2009 but Hemang Patel still operated A&J Foodmart at 19 and Kinchafoonee Creek road in Lee County.
