Hundreds of south Georgians are falling for a scam connected to their utility bills and It could wipe out their bank accounts.
Albany Water Gas and Light wants all its customers to be aware of the scam. Many customers are getting letters or phone calls claiming President Obama will pay their utility bills as part of his re-election campaign.
The con artists ask for your social security number and checking account and credit card information.
Lori Farkas, of Water Gas and Light says, " There is no Obama Money paying utility bills it is a nationwide scam. At Water Gas and Light we have had over 140 people that have fallen for it just in a few days."
If you get one of these notices it is not legitimate, ignore it and throw it away.
If you ever have any questions about your account, contact your utility provider directly.
