
When Albany Dixie League president Frank Sullivan presented the league's plan for hosting the state major league tournament, the state liked it so much they awarded Albany two state tournaments.
Opening ceremonies tonight at Albany's Paul Eames Ballpark for the Dixie Youth Baseball Major State Tournament and their Ozone State tournament.
The games will be played at the recently renovated Gordon Complex.
The Major state tournament is the traditional rules for 12 and under plays.
The Ozone tournament plays high school rules.
28 teams including Albany Dixie, Lee County, Albany American, Southeast Dougherty and Baconton will be trying to win those two state titles in the next week.
Sullivan says the city and the Albany Dixie and Baconton Dixie Leagues are also winners.
Frank Sullivan said. "It is great for our league. it is great for our partner in the league which is Baconton Dixie. it helps us generate revenue to fund our own program. whether it is equipment, you name it. it helps our small programs."
The games will be played at the Gordon Complex and the Albany Parks and Recreation Department are also involved in hosting these two state tournaments.
Games begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Gordon Complex.
