Dougherty County Police are asking for the community's help to get kids ready for school.

Children in need will be given school supplies at this year's National Night Out.

National Night Out is a program where law enforcement and first responders gather to meet the community.

Dougherty County Police know that many children will not have necessary school supplies, and are asking people and stores to donate.

"Our goal this year is to give out around 700 bags of school supplies to the children that attend. That should give them at least the basics to start school with this year," said Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick, Dougherty County Police.

Dougherty County's National Night Out event will be August 2nd at Radium Springs Middle School from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and they will have free food, games, and school supplies.

If you would like to donate school supplies, Dougherty County Police at 430-6600.
