Diana and Samuel Franklin walked into the Taylor County Courthouse in Butler, Georgia Thursday morning to attend a placement hearing for their 15-year-old adopted daughter. The girl was removed from the home in May by a custody order issued from Judge Wayne Jernigan amidst abuse allegations.
GBI Agents told us the placement hearing in Butler was to decide who would get custody of the Franklins' daughter. Taylor County Sheriff Jeff Watson says the criminal case will play a key role in the child's placement.
"Court is where all the decisions are made as far as the permanent decision so, GBI did the investigations now as you well know the arrest have been made now we are just waiting for court," Sheriff Watson said.
Judge Jernigan told News Leader 9 that he can't do much until the Franklin's criminal case. Jernigan said both parties wanted the details of Thursdays court proceedings to remain private. The case is sealed because it is juvenile hearing. The Franklins and their attorney declined to speak with News Leader 9 walking out of the courthouse.
People we spoke to outside the courthouse who were close to the case say they believe the Franklins were in fact abusing their daughter
GBI agents tell us the Franklins' daughter is not in their care and the temporary custody order filed by the juvenile court judge back in May is still in effect. Once the case is complete it will be handed over to district attorney Julia Slater for prosecution.
