An Albany rental company got quite a shock when they checked on a missing payment report from one of their clients.
They reviewed their surveillance video from Saturday and found that two men used a coat hanger to steal the check.
Now, they're asking for your help to identify the crooks.
A customer of DoLee Rentals Wednesday inquired about his rent check, which he slid through their office door Saturday afternoon.
Unable to find the check, they went back to surveillance video, and got a good look at how crooks stole it.
Take a look at these two men, outside the front door of DoLee Rentals on West Oglethorpe Saturday just before 2:30. They see that envelope just inside the locked doors, and decide to steal it.
"I really thought they have come to a new low," said Mary Mills, DoLee Rentals Manager.
The guy with the long dreads and the beard and pajama pants watches the road as a lookout, while the man in the plaid shorts kneels down with a coat hanger, and starts fishing.
"Apparently he's done this before. He was just too quick," said Mills.
While the other man stood watch, this man used the coat hanger to try to fish the envelope under the door. He bends it and works first between the doors and then under. He spent more than a minute and a half working with the hanger, and then he hooks it and pulls it under the door. And the two men take off.
The business owners admit they are shaken by this theft, despite the large investment they have made in cameras and alarms.
"We're just going to try everything we can to improve the safety of everybody around. This is just dangerous for people to be around this office, when something like that is going on. We don't know what kind of weapons those people may have had. So just a little bit scared," said Mills.
DoLee Rentals has put a sign on the door, telling their customers not to put checks under the door. They want them to drop them off during business hours, or mail them. And they are asking you to take a look at these two crooks, and help get them off the streets.
The business owners say they know a lot of people drove by their office on Oglethorpe Saturday afternoon, and if you saw anything, or recognize these two men, call CRIMESTOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
The client's check that was taken so far has not cleared the bank and he has stopped payment on it.
