DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

Coffee County deputies checked out a tip that an Ambrose man was burned while cooking meth. They found Mikie Vickers hospitalized, but he told them it was due to a grease fire. They got a search warrant to examine his house, and found a marijuana grow operation in the tiny town.

Coffee Co. deputies, the GBI, GSP Air Unit, and the Savannah Regional Drug all combined to search for a Meth operation, but didn't find one.

Deputies confiscated 25 pot plants on his property, and another 100 marijuana cuttings to be used to grow more marijuana.

When Vickers is released from the hospital, he will be arrested on marijuana growing charges.

Here is a news release issued by the Coffee County Sheriff's Office-

On July 11, 2012, the Coffee County Sheriff's Office received information indicating Kenneth Michael Vickers, Jr., a.k.a. 'Mikie,' had been burned from a meth lab explosion at his home, located at 605 Myrtle Adams Rd., Ambrose, GA, on the prior evening.

CCSO deputies responded to Vickers's home, but discovered Vickers was in the hospital.

CCSO Drug Unit detectives interviewed Vickers at the hospital.  Vickers stated he had been burned from a grease fire he discovered when he returned home on the evening of the 10th

Vickers was asked about evidence that had been noticed in plain view on his property upon the arrival of deputies; evidence that indicated Vickers was growing marijuana.  Vickers stated he had marijuana inside of his home and had been growing marijuana.

Vickers adamantly denied any involvement with manufacturing methamphetamine.

CCSO Drug Unit detectives secured a search warrant for Vickers's home and property.  CCSO Drug Unit detectives contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation – Savannah Regional Drug Enforcement Office to assist in determining if Vickers did have a methamphetamine laboratory.

CCSO Drug Unit detectives also contacted the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit to assist in the location and removal of marijuana plants found growing in a wooded area behind Vickers's home.

The GBI – SRDEO did not locate a meth lab nor did they discover any evidence suggesting Vickers had been cooking meth, but CCSO Drug Unit detectives did locate 25 marijuana plants growing in the wooded area behind Vickers's home.  Detectives also discovered an indoor marijuana growing facility on Vickers's property and an additional 100 marijuana cuttings.

Vickers is currently hospitalized at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, receiving treatment for burns he received from what the GBI determined was a grease fire.

Once Vickers is released, he will be arrested for Manufacturing Marijuana.
