The vacation season is well underway. But before you hit the highway, we've got some tips for you to help keep your home secure.

A large number of burglaries happen during the summer, according to media reports. That's why it's so important to make sure your home is secure while you're on vacation.

Make sure you have a security system and motion lights on the outside of your home. Leave a light on or a radio to make thieves think someone is inside.

Media reports suggests having a neighbor park their car in your driveway and get your mail. It's never a good idea to post on Facebook and Twitter that you're headed out of town.

Lock all windows and doors of you home. Also place a rod behind any sliding glass doors inside of your house.

Following those tips will make your house less appealing to burglars.
