MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

A standoff that started early Tuesday afternoon continued at midnight at home in Moultrie.

Police don't want to give us details until it's all over, but here's what we do know.

The 911 center got a call at 12:32 p.m. about a man firing a shot at someone at his home on 11th Court Southeast. When police got there, he wouldn't come out.

Over the next several hours, several law enforcement agencies responded. A SWAT team showed up about 7:30 and surrounded the home about 8:00.

As of midnight, they had not tried to enter the home.

Neighbors tell us the man is visually impaired, has multiple guns in his home. and his mother recently died.

A similar case last year in Moultrie ended with a fatal shooting. A SWAT team surrounded 51 year-old Walter Peterson's home after he locked himself inside after a confrontation at a nearby store.

When officers entered the home, they say Peterson ran toward them with a butcher knife. The officer who shot him was cleared of any wrongdoing.

In March, Moultrie Police went through special crisis intervention training to learn how to deal better with people with mental health issues.
