You walk in the door of the Department of Driver services to renew your license...wait in line to fill out forms.
Ebony Williams says, "I came to get my license renewed today and I sat there for like an hour and a half."
Then wait in line once again to return it to the attendant, only to learn you don't have the proper identification to get a renewal.
Williams says, "I had all the documents I thought but I needed way more."
Many Georgia Drivers are realizing the changes happening at the Department of Drivers Services, and as off July 1st all renewals must be done in person and no longer online. And you will need more documents than before.
Williams says, "They were like 'You still need two of the same identification, so I have to come back in 120 days'."
It's part of new federal security guidelines. A driver must bring one form of government issued identification such a birth certificate or passport, a valid representation of a social security number, and two proofs of residency.
Williams says, "Crazy it was unnecessary to me it was very unnecessary because I had a lot of documents."
And Camilla resident Ebony Williams admits that she is still confused about the changes, she was also turned away for having different addresses on her documents.
Williams says, "They needed something like the same bank statement plus a voter registration with the same address."
And with these changes a fear of confusion and even longer wait times loom
Williams says, "Its unnecessary, I don't know, its just unnecessary."
But according to federal rules, the inconvenience is to improve our nation's security.
