An Albany woman, who has been involved in the deaths of six people in the last 32 years, is sentenced to seven years in prison for vehicular homicide. Cheri Randle showed no remorse during her sentencing by Judge Willie Lockette in a Dougherty County courtroom.
The 51-year-old Randle was given a 20-year total sentence for vehicular homicide, the first seven to be spent in prison, the remainder on probation. The court is considering restitution.
Prosecutors say in April 2010, Randle sped through a red light and hit a car full of women and children headed to church.
65-year-old Jeanette Ford was killed, and 11-year-old Melvina Dudley suffered permanent injuries. A jury deliberated less than an hour after her trial to find her guilty, but Randle still maintained her innocence during sentencing.
"Declaring that the witnesses were lying on her, and that she did not run the red light and that she was not speeding," said Dougherty D. A. Greg Edwards.
In 1980, Cheri Randle was convicted of misdemeanor reckless conduct in the death of four children killed in a fire.
In 1982 she was convicted of involuntary manslaughter when she killed her boyfriend with a broken beer bottle during a domestic dispute.
She is in the Dougherty County jail, and will be moved to a state facility.
