Lake Blackshear Retreat robbed

CRISP COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

The search continues Tuesday night for two men who violently robbed a desk clerk at The Retreat at Lake Blackshear early Tuesday morning.

Around 1:15, two men rushed the clerk, demanded money and hit her.

One visitor to The Retreat says she'll keep her eyes open, not only for herself, but for her children as well.

For the past 6 years Lisa Knight has vacationed at the Lake Blackshear Retreat and never would have thought a robbery would hit so close to home.

"It's a great neighborhood. It's a great area. The people are great. Every problem we've ever had, they've taken care of, so it's a shock," said Knight.

Early this morning, two men demanded money from desk clerk Brittney Garland and then hit her. They got away with $200.

"We tend to leave our doors unlocked in this real open atmosphere, but now I'll probably keep them a little closer and locking up a little tighter," said Knight.

Now, Retreat staff says they will make changes as Crisp County deputies search for the 2 robbers.

"We're looking at some heightened security awareness, also possibly just doing some things different with the night audit process," said Linda Hawkins with The Retreat at Lake Blackshear.

"You kind of let your guard down when you're comfortable, so it kind of just reminds you of it can happen anywhere you go," said Knight.

As for Knight, she says she'll be more aware of her surroundings, especially with her 4 and 2 year old by her side.

"Now we'll be locking the doors for sure and be a little bit more cautious," said Knight.

The search continues for those two men.

There are security cameras where the crime took place. Deputies are still looking at that video and may release that footage soon to see if the public can help find the robbers.

The robbers are black. One wore a blue hoodie with some sort of logo. The other wore shorts, a dark shirt and a stocking cap over his face.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the Crisp County Sheriff's office at 276-2600.
