An Albany family is looking for a new home, after a huge oak tree crashed into their Mitchell Avenue kitchen.
Heavy winds, rain and lightning are to blame for the oak tree crashing down Sunday night near Albany State.
One of the family members was sitting in the exact spot where the tree hit.
What could have been tragic is just a messy clean up Monday morning -- after a tree fell through a home on Mitchell Ave.
"And it's up rooted from the ground. That was some powerful wind that came through here last night," said Jimmy Gibson. "All of a sudden we heard like a loud thunderstorm. It was real heavy."
Gibson lives there and says he heard the heavy winds and lighting. Then all of sudden, "I walked in the kitchen and saw the tree."
A 10 foot oak tree fell through the Gibson's family home -- damaging the roof -- and leaving an open hole for rain to fall through. "A little piece of the tree came through the ceiling in the den."
Neighbor Rebecca Campbell said, "The rain it looked like a white cloud and the wind was going everywhere."
Campbell lives right next door to the Gibson family and noticed it on her morning walk. "I was just glad that it didn't fall on this power line. The whole neighborhood could have been without power. I'm glad nobody was hurt as well."
Gibson's sister was sitting in the kitchen when the tree fell. "Thank God she didn't get hurt," said Campbell.
Now the family is just left wondering where they are going to live. The owner of the property is supposed to come and have a tree service remove the tree.
