A group of medical students got started with their clinic campus program at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Monday.

The students went through orientation to prepare them for working alongside medical professionals.

It is one of the first steps for some of the students to get experience with patients. One of them is excited to put her classroom knowledge to the test.

"Most of us have spent the last two years in the library or a coffee shop. It is just a really exciting opportunity to finally have time with patients," said Medical College of Georgia student Alyssa Anderson.

She says she is very interested in family medicine and pediatrics. This is the third year of residential students doing the program at Phoebe. More than 140 medical professionals help give one-on-one lessons about caring for patients.
