Excitement was all over today at the 18th annual Albany Marine Corps Base's Independence day celebration.
Cpl. Edward Peifer, a U.S. Marine says, "It gives a chance for the community to get more involved with our base. We reach out for community service events but this gives a chance for the civilian population to come see the type of things we can do for the community as well ."
And the community came out to see just what the base had to offer, while hundreds of people ate, played and enjoyed free entertainment, including The New Orleans Marine Corps Band that traveled out of duty to Albany.
MSgt. William Call, of the U.S. Marine Corps Band, New Orleans says "As you know there used to be a band here in Albany and it was decommissioned. We knew that Albany loved their band, so we knew we had to do something for the city."
Many veterans look forward to the event to interact with current military personnel.
Chantell Couch, a veteran says, "We always like coming back to the events it helps us stay connected, especially with anything having to do with national pride and Independence Day."
While others bring their family to show a more compassionate and inspirational view of the military. But of course the night is not complete without the most popular attraction: Fireworks.
Celebrating another year and going out with a bang.
