An Albany man is back from Washington where he received a prestigious award from Congress.

Former marine Henry Jackson was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for being part of the Montford Point Marines, the first group of African-Americans to serve in the Marine Corp.

Jackson says it was an honor to help make history. He says the medal means a lot to him and his family.

"It happened at a good time," said Henry L. Jackson. "I'm in my prime. I'm still here to enjoy it and receive it and pass it down to my generation, my children. It is part of history."

The Congressional Gold Medal is one of the highest civilian awards. He says he is glad to have been a part of history that made life better for future marines.
