Albany Tech celebrated Arbor Day Thursday by planting a tree on campus.
Workers planted a live oak, Georgia's state tree, between the Nathaniel Cross Health Care Technology building and the Career Development Center.
A representative from the Georgia Forestry Commission spoke about the importance of trees to our environment and how to protect trees and forests.
"If you have a pine stand, you need to burn. You need to reduce that fuel litter so that if a wildfire does get in there it's not going to have a tremendous amount of fuel to get real hot and destroy the trees," said Chuck Norvell with the Georgia Forestry Commission.
This is the fourth year that Albany Tech has been named a Tree Campus USA.
