Stay safe in the heat

Posted: Updated:

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - We are in for some dangerous heat the next few days.

About 400 Americans die every year from heat-related ailments.

We are facing triple degree temperatures, emergency officials are urging you to stay safe.

Officials say it's important to stay hydrated throughout the day and to recognize signs of exhaustion.

Dizziness, nausea, and cramps are all indicators that you should head indoors.

"When temperatures get this high, heat stroke's a potential health risk. Heat exhaustion. Heat cramps. That's why you want to do most of your activity early morning, late afternoon. Anything strenuous outside," said EMS Captain James Mann.

Officials say while no one is safe from the heat, the elderly are the most at risk for heat-related illnesses.
