Georgia Chamber launches Smarter Funding, Better Outcome Initiative

ATLANTA, GA (WALB) -

The Georgia Chamber of Commerce is launching a new initiative to make sure your money is spent wisely on education.

The "Smarter Funding, Better Outcomes" initiative will study ways to improve Georgia's K-12 funding system and the success of Georgia students.

It's partly paid for by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.

One study ranks Georgia 31st for the return on its education investment.

That's why chamber leaders say the initiative is needed.

"We're putting a lot of money into our education system. We're not getting the kind of results or return on investments we'd like to see and what this process is going to do is help identify some improvements we can make to make sure we're making the best use of taxpayers' dollars," said Senior Vice President of External Affairs for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Joselyn Baker.

Chamber officials hope to have results from the initiative sometime this fall.
