Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, GA -The Governors Office of Highway Safety reminds you law enforcers have zero tolerance for drunk driving.

Officers from Albany, Dougherty County, and the state patrol gathered with officials from the highway safety office in downtown Albany Wednesday afternoon. They're promoting Operation Zero Tolerance, a 2 week effort to keep Georgia's roads safe from drunk drivers.

They say the campaign which also features television and radio commercials has proven successful in recent years in preventing crashes, there's always room for improvement.

"We're seeing a reduction of fatalities overall but we're starting to see a little bit of a spike, It's not enough for us to get alarmed yet, but enough for us to be concerned. We have renewed our commitment to keeping the roads as safe as possible. We have the commitment of the state patrol, county sheriff's offices and police departments throughout this state," said GOHS official Harris Blackwood.

Last year, 1500 DUI arrests were made and 25,000 speeding citation were written during the Operation.
