The family of a Miller County woman is mourning tonight after GBI investigators say the 58 year old was murdered by her husband, before he took his own life.

A Dougherty County golf club is scheduled to be sold on the courthouse steps one week from Tuesday but the owner says he will seek bankruptcy protection to prevent that.

The River Pointe Golf Club off Philema Road faces a debt crisis.

Jos Bekkers owns the club that opened in 1995.

He owes $1.3M dollars to a Synovus bank and they have called the note due.

Bekkers is trying to negotiate the debt.

If that's unsuccessful he says he'll file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection before the golf course hits the auction block.

"Regardless of what happens with our negotiations with Synovus, the golf course will continue. It will be business as usual.  All events are going on as planned. Pirate camps this summer. Everything will go forward," said Jos Bekkers, River Pointe Golf Club owner.

Bekkers has met with the club members and more than 120 homeowners around the golf course.

He says he appreciates the support he is receiving during trying financial times.
