Learning about T-SPLOST

Posted: Updated:

We'll vote on a regional transportation sales tax July 31st.

Monday night, voters in Albany learned more about the projects the tax would pay for.

Rhema Word Cathedral hosted the second of three T-SPLOST informational meetings.

Supporters of the new sales tax say it would bring jobs and better infrastructure to southwest Georgia.

Some opponents say they're trying to fix something that isn't broken.

"I think the roads in Dougherty county are very well taken care of thus far," said Henry M. Brown. "There is already money coming in from the federal government and I believe the state government that is handling that. Why is there a need for an additional penny?"

If the referendum passes, the tax would be in effect for ten years and the revenue generated in our region would pay for projects in this area.

The final forum will be July 12th at Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
