How truck drivers can stay safe at train intersections

SYCAMORE, GA -

Did you see that startling train and truck crash in Sycamore over the weekend?

It has many truck drivers reviewing what they should do at a train crossing.

A truck got stuck on the train tracks. The driver got out safely, but obviously the oncoming train could not stop in time.

It barreled right into the 18-wheeler.

One trucker tells us there are many steps a driver should take to ensure safety at a railroad crossing.

"We are taught when we are trained to drive trucks not to shift gears when you go across intersections and to maintain a steady speed," said Roy Byrd. "Always check the crossing and everything before you go over."

Roy Byrd told us it looks like the trailer's landing gear got caught on the tracks.

He says truck drivers must be careful about where they drive because some roads and railroad crossings can't handle large trucks.
