The new Miss Georgia has been crowned. The first runner-up was Miss Georgia Cotton, Carly Mathis of Leesburg.

Mathis won $9,000 dollars in scholarship money. She also used her singing skills to win the talent portion of the competition.

She will go on to compete in the National Sweetheart pageant in Illinois during labor day weekend. Mathis describes her crowning as an unreal experience.

"I wasn't expecting much, they just said fourth runner-up and I was like alright, fourth runner-up that's probably going to be me. And it wasn't and it just continued on and I found myself standing there with one other girl and I was freaking out," says Carly MathisMiss Georgia Cotton.

Leighton Jordan, who was Miss Capital City, won the statewide pageant Saturday night in Columbus. Jordan won a $15,000 scholarship and will represent the state in the Miss America pageant.
