The latest statistics suggest crime is on the rise in Minneapolis, for both violent and property crime. Only homicide and burglary are down so far this year. The downtown areas of the city in particular have seen a significant spike in crime compared to last year and is a topic of concern as police officials begin an annual summer crime-fighting program.
There are dozens on neighborhoods within Minneapolis and no two are exactly the same when it comes to crimes rates. Below is a list of the neighborhoods with the least and most amount of overall crime in May 2012.

Though crimes committed in the downtown area is much higher than other parts of the city, there are also many more people that frequent that neighborhood. Minneapolis Chief of Police Timothy Dolan said, "you think about the numbers downtown and you look at our statistics and figure out how many crimes there are per person downtown, it's relatively really low," Dolan said.
