The U.S. Senate passed a sweeping farm bill late Thursday by a vote of 65 to 34 over the objections of Georgia Senators and upset southern farmers.

The half trillion dollar 5-year bill passed with bi-partisan support, but Georgia Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson voted against it, saying it favors midwestern crops and is unfair to Georgia farmers.

They hope a much different version will pass the House and a compromise can be reached between the two.

Southern farmers complain the bill does away with direct payments for peanut and cotton farmers.

They say crop insurance isn't enough to protect those farmers from potentially drastic market fluctuations.
