LEE COUNTY, GA – Lee County Sheriff's Deputies took part in a active shooter drill Thursday inside an elementary school.

More than 20 deputies participated in the training exercise at Twin Oaks Elementary.

At a briefing they were prepped on different scenarios they would be faced with. Teams of 4 maneuvered down a darkened hallway where they encountered a gunman.

Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals says he hopes a scenario like this never happens, but if it does, his officers will be ready.

"It does make a big difference on not just searching a school like this, but it even teaches how to search other building like stores or banks or even a home. That way you've got a technical tactic way of doing things," said Rachals.

The deputies carried real glocks but used what's called seminition in the drill. It's a pellet filled with a soapy-paint like material.

The sheriffs office hopes to conduct more drills like this over the year.
