Tifton farmers market accepts WIC vouchers

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

It's now easier for people in Tifton to buy fresh produce at the downtown farmers market.

The farmer's market is now approved to accept vouchers from the Women Infant and Children program.

WIC is a federal program designed provide access to healthy food to families with young children.

The farmers market will even offer special deals.

"We are an approved site," said Tifton Economic Development Coordinator Lequrica Gaskins. "It is one of the only sites this side of Georgia to offer double dollars. For instance, if they purchase 30 dollars worth of fruit and vegetables, they can actually double their dollars and get 60 dollars of fresh fruit and vegetables."

Senior citizens can also use vouchers at the market.

The farmers market is in downtown Tifton every Saturday from 8 AM to noon.
