    The Albany Police Depart is engaged in a recruitment campaign to get its officer corps up to full strength. APD is budgeted for 214 officers, and right now is about 20 officers short of that level, and

Albany Technical College is looking to expand its campus.

A committee is looking into a possible land purchase on South Slappey Blvd. The tract is between the Regions Bank branch location, and the school's Cosmetology teaching facility.

The school needs state approval to begin a housing program, and if that doesn't happen, the school could use the lot to build a new gymnasium, or some other structure there.

There is a chance that additional land could be purchased from John Deere.

Albany Tech's board voted to approve spending $5,000 as earnest money to hold the tract near Region's Bank.

"We're very land locked here," said Wendy Howell, Albany Tech Public Relations Director. "We're continuously looking for land around us to where we can expand. I believe this property has been for sale for several years. This is a way for us to purchase something where we can grow. We're not sure what we're going to put there."

Another Albany tech goal is also having all of its student services and admissions offices in one building.

Albany tech has 60 days to make a decision on whether to purchase the land.

The school has a sixty-day window to finalize a deal.
