Greene campaigns to keep seat in GA house

Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Georgia House Speaker David Ralston is throwing his support behind a veteran lawmaker whose new district now includes part of Dougherty County.

Republican Gerald Greene is from Cuthbert. But his newly drawn District 151 encompasses 9 counties, including a portion of Dougherty.

Greene was first elected to the General Assembly in 1983.

He says the region needs experienced leadership to influence decisions made in Atlanta that effect southwest Georgia especially when it comes to jobs.

"It takes team ship to make those things come about. We're picking up businesses in south Georgia that we hope will be satellites and spinoffs. That's important to us. But it's also a regional thing that we have to look at. Not just one county but a regional approach," said Greene.

House Speaker Ralston came to Albany for a fundraiser today for Greene who will face Democrat Richie Smith of Blakely in November.
