The Albany Dougherty Economic Development Commission developed a detailed plan to bring in more business.
The Commission approved their budget Wednesday. One addition is $100,000 from reserves for a special marketing project.
Over the years, the commission has targeted industry sectors for Albany. Now, they'll be digging deeper to target specific companies.
"We're going to spend some time and effort and resources to try to determine the top 100 companies in each of these sectors that are good candidates for expansions and relocations and focus our marketing efforts on that," said Ted Clems, the EDC President.
With the state of the economy, EDC officials say they can't afford to be reactive, so this is a way to be proactive.
The commission is also planning on marketing the skills learned by our military.
"What we need to do and start planning for is what will happen when the MCLB Albany returns to peacetime settings. Obviously they can't sustain that employment level. But one of the benefits of this is there's been a tremendous level of skill sets that have been developed at MCLB Albany with the workforce. Are there ways we can attract industries that can use those skills? We want to do a better job of understanding what those skill sets are," explained Clems.
The EDC will begin a long-range strategic planning process this summer.
