Albany Boys and Girls teach kids water safety

Posted: Updated:

Summer officially starts tomorrow, but children are already cooling off by taking a dip in the pool.

The Albany Boys and Girls Club is making sure youngsters stay safe in the water.

More than 300 children signed up to learn how to swim or better improve their water skills.

The eight week course is teaching them life lessons as well as keeping them happy, healthy and out of harm's way.

"We don't have enough water activities probably in this area, so are kids are, you know and its seasonal so the only water that they will get will probably be the rivers, the creeks, the motels, and places like that," Albernell King, Albany Boys & Girls Club Pool Dir.

Instructors say a lot of beginners are scared to start but they have a great passing rate.

The swimming course is offered to 6 to 13 year olds and is held during the week.
