The Flint RiverQuarium and Civil Rights Institute will have to present spending plans before they get any money from the city.

Commissioners say they want to see exactly what the two attractions would do with the money.

The CEO of the Flint RiverQuarium wants private donors to see how the city is willing to work with them, in hopes it will send a promising message the private sector.

"For private donors to get on board as they have in the past and to do so even more, now moving forward, I think it will be strongly encouraged by strong public sector support," said RiverQuarium CEO Sanders Lewallen.

City Manager James Taylor initially proposed cutting funding for the attractions for upcoming fiscal year.  The savings would amount to more than $200,000.
