    Ravi Mikel Givens was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He is being held in the Dougherty County jail. Givens, who played ball at Westover and Stetson
    Agents say that police responded to the apartment because of a burglar alarm. Officers found the back door broken open and went inside. That's where they detected a strong odor of marijuana, and saw pot in plain view.

 Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree hosted a meeting with his staff, the Board of Education, and the College and Career Academy Steering Committee.

The College and Career Academy Steering Committee presented the Academy draft Charter to the board, and answered questions about the Charter.

Russ Moore, Bobby McKinney, and Tim Knowles were presenters.

The proposed name of school is Albany College and Career Academy, and they propose repurposing Albany High School.

Questions and concerns were addressed about finance, the proposed AHS location, overcrowding at other schools, etc. 

The steering committee will work with the board on these issues an will make revisions as needed. 

The next meeting for the steering committee is Thursday the 28th. 

Students at Albany high has started a petition to prevent the closing of Albany High.  So far they have more than 200 names.

The school board met in executive session to talk about the college/career academy.
