
The Georgia Junior Championship teed off on Monday, June 18 and will continue through Wednesday, June 20, at Doublegate Country Club. The event is 54 holes of stroke play over three days with the 144-player field cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes.
The top eight finishers will earn a spot on the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match team later this summer. The winner of the Georgia Junior Championship also receives an exemption into the 2012 Georgia Amateur Championship, which takes place at Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek in Roswell, July 12-15.
The Georgia Junior Championship began in 1966 and has been played on 29 different golf courses. This year marks the 47th annual event and will be played at Doublegate Country Club for the first time.
Albany has 6 golfers in the tournament and it was Tyler Joiner who shined in round one. Joiner shot a -1 first round including 3 birdies on the 5th, 15th and 18th. Andy Shim was the leads the field at -6. The tournament will run through Wednesday at Doublegate.
