Albany Transit cutting Sunday service

Posted: Updated:

ALBANY (WALB) - The Albany Transit System is eliminating Sunday bus service.

Fewer than 100 people ride city buses in Albany on Sundays..compared to about 27-hundred on weekdays.

Sunday operations cost the city about $1,800 a day and the city wants to cut that cost.

"It's costing us about $70,000-$75,000 a year. On Sundays we make a about $143 per day and it's costing about $164 per trip to operate. We'll see some immediate savings right there," said interim transit director David Hamilton.

Currently two buses service four routes on Sunday.

Hamilton says the money saved could go toward the purchase of a new bus or training.

They'll consider running buses on Sundays during Christmas time.
