With the rigors of OTAs and mini-camp with his new team behind him, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Leonard Pope is back in his home town of Americus for his annual All-Star Kids Day Camp.
This is the 6th year Pope has held a summer camp for children in his home community. The kids were treated to a full day of events including Zumba, a football skills camp and even a cheerleader camp for the young ladies.
Pope implemented a black and gold theme for this year's event in honor of his new team. He signed a one year contract with the Steelers this past April after spending the last two season with the chiefs
He said even though the day was full of fun and games there was also a special lesson he wanted the kids to learn.
Pope said "A good deal right now that I have going on for the kids. They look forward to this that I do for them every year. I have a lot of my players and former teammates and some other NFL guys out here and they come to me support me for the kids so its just a great day on this Saturday right now.
Pope says he'll back up Heath Miller at the tight end position to start the season.
