TERRELL COUNTY, GA (WALB) -
Homeless dogs in Terrell County will soon move into a new shelter.
Their current shelter is over capacity.
In April, commissioners approved building a small shelter with 34 kennels costing about $55,000 dollars.
Officials say it's necessary to house their overflow dog population.
They've been taking in more dogs since tough new regulations for owning pit bulls went into effect and some folks abandoned their pets.
"It was unreal, currently we only have 16 shelters, that is so small, we can take in that many dogs in a weeks time," said Martha Ann Coe, Animal Control Director.
Terrell County can't adopt dogs out, but they're working with several agencies that can to help find the dogs homes.
